- ATR -600s rank first among regional aircraft sales, despite challenging market
- ATR confirms historical levels of turnover and deliveries
- The turboprop maker continues to develop regional connectivity worldwide
Toulouse, January 23, 2017 – ATR further consolidated its position in 2016 as the preferred choice of regional airlines. The modern ATR -600s ranked first among all regional aircraft sales of the year, with orders for 36 aircraft (34 ATR 72-600s and 2 ATR 42-600s). ATR confirms its leading position in the segment of 50-to-90-seat aircraft with a market share above 35% since 2010.
As it celebrated its 35th anniversary, the world’s leading turboprop manufacturer consolidated historical levels of turnover and deliveries despite a challenging market environment. In 2016, ATR reached its second-highest turnover ever (US$ 1.8 billion), and its third-highest year in terms of deliveries (80 aircraft), confirming the appetite of the market for modern turboprops. The aircraft manufacturer also secured a healthy backlog, guaranteeing about 3 years of production.
In 2016, ATR achieved a major contract to introduce ATR -600s in the promising market of Argentina with Avian Lineas Aéreas, thus underlining its key role to structure and develop regional links. ATR also received renewed confidence from nearly 30-year-long operators Aeromar (Mexico) and Binter (Spain), plus additional orders from Papua New-Guinea’s PNG Air and Brazil’s Azul Linhas Aéreas.
ATR’s Chief Executive Officer Christian Scherer declared: “ATR remained the preferred choice of regional airlines in 2016, despite a globally difficult year in the regional aircraft market. As the environment is getting tougher, the economic advantages and the market liquidity of the ATR aircraft versus its competitors prove to be the basis of our success.”
Founded in 1981, ATR is the world leader on the market for below-90-seat regional aircraft. Since its creation, ATR has sold over 1,500 aircraft. ATR aircraft equip the fleets of some 200 airlines in nearly 100 countries. ATR is an equal partnership between two major European aeronautics players, Airbus and Leonardo. Based in Toulouse, France, ATR is well established worldwide with a large customer support and sales network, including Customer Service Centers, training centers and warehouses.
