Fokker Elmo selected for wiring system of PurePo

Fokker Elmo selected for wiring system of PurePower engine

November 23, 2009 - Fokker Elmo, has been selected by Hamilton Sundstrand for the development and manufacturing of the complete electrical wiring system for the Pratt & Whitney PurePower PW1000G engine. Hamilton Sundstrand and Pratt & Whitney are United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) businesses.

Development activities have already begun in Hoogerheide, with first hardware deliveries scheduled for first quarter 2010 and serial production beginning in 2011. Additionally, commercial negotiations have been finalized with Hamilton Sundstrand for wiring harnesses on the APS5000 Auxiliary Power Unit, which will be used on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

"We're pleased to have Fokker-Elmo as our supplier on the systems that Hamilton Sundstrand provides for Pratt & Whitney's PurePower engine family," said Steve Peery, Hamilton Sundstrand Engine Systems vice president.

Hamilton Sundstrand and Fokker Elmo have been growing their relationship for electrical wiring packages substantially over the past years. The successful performance by Fokker Elmo on the Pratt & Whitney F135 JSF engine program has been recognized by Hamilton Sundstrand with the supplier of the year award.

The engineering and development activities will be supported and coordinated from the Fokker Elmo facility in Hoogerheide (the Netherlands). The selection values approximately 6 million USD yearly, representing work for 15 wiring system specialists.

The PurePower PW1000G engine is an all-new centerline engine that includes flight proven, next generation technology. The PurePower PW1000G features an advanced gear system that allows the engine's fan to operate at a slower speed than the low-pressure compressor and turbine. The combination of the gear system and all-new advanced core delivers double-digit improvements in fuel efficiency and environmental emissions and a 50 percent reduction in noise.

Vice President Marketing and Sales of Fokker Elmo, Mr. Adriaan Leyte stated: “We are very pleased with the success of our growing partnership with Hamilton Sundstrand and Pratt & Whitney. We are especially proud that our successful co-operation in the JSF program was recognized by Hamilton Sundstrand’s decision to expand our working relationship. We are very excited to be involved and contribute to the success of the PurePower program, supporting and contributing improvements in fuel efficiency and environmental emissions.”

“Pratt & Whitney and Hamilton Sundstrand have been working with Fokker Elmo from the beginning of the F135 development program and the relationship has grown into the production phase,” said Mr. Ed O’Donnell, Pratt & Whitney’s director of International Programs and Business Development. “This award is another example of the business ‘spill over’ opportunities that are being generated by the JSF F135 engine program; and it further expands the Fokker Elmo’s existing relationship with the Pratt & Whitney F135 Program, Hamilton Sundstrand, and Pratt & Whitney Canada.”
